Mixinspiration: Róisín Murphy Live

posted by Drew | Friday, November 28, 2008 | 11:42:15 pm

Recorded Sunday November 23, 2008 at Vorst Nationaal in Brussels, Belgium. Watch it here or view the full size version on Murphy’s website.

Murphy has some rad/silly costume changes throughout the full set, including several Frisbee shaped hats and some giant stuffed bendy men. She also busts out a cover of Bryan Ferry’s “Slave to Love” towards the end, which sadly doesn’t sound as deliciously synthy as it does in this mesmerizingly ludicrous Gucci commercial.

OMG: Virtual TR-808, TR-909, TB-303

Audiotool

It appears as though some genius at Hobnox.com has used interweb magic to brew up a thing called Audiotool, a Flash-based, fully functional emulation of the TR-808 and TR-909 rhythm composers and the TB-303 bass synth (plus an array of pedals to boot).

Bonus points if you make a song with it and include it on your mix.

So, uh, what is this?

The Mix Institute is a forum created expressly to facilitate the exchange of music & amusement between human beings.  Bring some mixes & bring yourself; get some mixes & meet some comrades.  Simple, exquisite.

Why bother?

Discovering new music has traditionally been a social process - from jukeboxes to listening parties to exchanging mixes (albeit on cassettes).  We’re just carrying a resoundingly cosmic tradition - you, though, need to help

How do I participate?

Just RSVP, and be sure to follow the (not particularly stringent) rules.  Again - simple, exquisite.

This sounds fun, but everybody already knows my favorite songs…

Well, probably not, but even if they do, who cares?  Enthusiasm trumps obscurantism any day, dig?  We’d rather hang out with a really genuine Beatles fan than with 100 cats & kittens bickering about the newest toast of the underground.

Oh, hello!
